Healing, Resilience & Culturally Safe Support.
Wellbeing is a community responsibility. Not a personal failure. SUDD Foundation walks alongside South Sudanese Australians through difficult times — together.
Wellbeing Is a Community Responsibility. Not a Personal Failure.
At SUDD Foundation, we approach mental health the way our community approaches most things — together. Many South Sudanese Australians have experienced profound loss, displacement, and trauma. We acknowledge that reality with honesty and compassion. But we also know that our community carries extraordinary resilience — and that healing is possible when it happens in a culturally safe, community-led space. We are committed to reducing the stigma around mental health in our community, increasing access to culturally appropriate support, and walking alongside individuals and families through difficult times.
"Healing is possible when it happens in a culturally safe, community-led space."
— SUDD Foundation
Four Pillars of Community Wellbeing Support
Every program is delivered free of charge in a culturally safe environment — grounded in South Sudanese values and lived experience.

Peer Wellbeing Support Circles
A safe space to share, listen, connect, and heal — together
- Facilitated peer support circles for youth and adults — a safe space to share, listen, and connect
- Trauma-informed storytelling and healing groups grounded in South Sudanese cultural values
- Parent–youth relationship strengthening sessions to address intergenerational tensions
- Grief and loss support, particularly for those who have experienced conflict-related loss

Early Intervention & Psychoeducation
Building mental health awareness before crisis — in culturally familiar settings
- Community workshops on mental health, stress, grief, and coping strategies
- Reducing stigma — open conversations about mental health in culturally familiar settings
- Psychoeducation sessions for youth, parents, and community leaders
- Early identification and warm referrals to youth-friendly, culturally competent services

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training
SUDD Foundation trains community members, youth workers, and volunteers in Mental Health First Aid — equipping them to recognise the signs of mental distress in others, respond safely, and connect people to appropriate support. We believe that when community members have these skills, the whole community becomes a safety net.
Suicide Prevention & Crisis Support
SUDD Foundation takes suicide prevention seriously. We work with trained community leaders and partner organisations to ensure that no member of our community faces a crisis alone. If you or someone you know is in distress, please reach out immediately.
